In this page Ella walks by Ernie reading the book and says 'Oh! You found the book!'. Ernie is sursprised, and hesitatingly asks 'Did... did you put it on my desk?'. Ella replies, amiably 'Yeah! A nice lady dropped it off for you.' Ernni puts his hand to his face and looks freaked out 'The plot thickens!'. E.B.'s Journal reads:'February 1911. In my opinion, and at this somewhat early stage in my research, the 'Smiley' is a trickster. A demon, of sorts, if one were inclined to assign such theologicl terms to this phenomenon. And one might. It is, after all, what we do with the inexplicable. No one I have talked to has seen the 'Smiley' more than once. But that sole encounter has been enough to scar them - permanently, the memory etched in their mind like some twisted wood carving.'

February 1911. In my opinion, and at this somewhat early stage in my research, the "Smiley" is a trickster. A demon, of sorts, if one were inclined to assign such theologicl terms to this phenomenon. And one might. It is, after all, what we do with the inexplicable. No one I have talked to has seen the "Smiley" more than once. But that sole encounter has been enough to scar them - permanently, the memory etched in their mind like some twisted wood carving.
